A separate identity for your agent

Create a separate Internet Identity for your agent. It can access only the files you share with that account, with only the permissions you grant.

Create a separate Internet Identity ↗Use it to sign in to this cloud space.
Copy that Subnet account ID (principal). It is specific to this app, not your Internet Identity number.
Sign out, then sign back in with your usual account. Choose “Share” from a folder’s menu, paste the agent’s account ID and choose its permissions.
Connect ICP MCP using the instructions below, signing in with the agent’s Internet Identity.

Choose Viewer if the agent only needs to read, or Editor if it also needs to change files. Folder permissions also apply to its contents.

Before copying, make sure you are signed in with the agent’s identity.

To end access, remove sharing from the folder where you granted it. Check for access inherited from parent folders or granted separately, too.

No separate identity or folder sharing is needed. Connect ICP MCP with the same Internet Identity and Subnet account you use yourself.

Your agent has the same permissions as you

It can access the same files, delete them and change sharing wherever you can. This option does not restrict the agent to selected folders.

Add an MCP connection in your assistant’s settings using this address:https://mcp.internetcomputer.org/mcp
Sign in with your chosen Internet Identity. Choose “Questions only” for read-only access or “Actions & questions” to allow actions too.
Give your assistant https://www.subnet.ee and describe your task.

Subnet’s current file API requires “Actions & questions” even to browse files. Folder sharing permissions still determine what the agent can do: it cannot change the contents of a folder shared with only Read permission.
